Meet
Dan Roach
   
Dan
is the son of State Senator Pam Roach and Jim Roach. He is the 2nd
of five children. Dan grew up in the Green River valley area, not
far from Flaming Geyser State Park. As a youth, Dan held various
elected positions at his High School and Junior High, swam on the
Varsity swim team for three years, earned his Eagle Scout award, and
participated in his church and youth activities.
He was accepted to
Brigham Young University where he completed one
semester before leaving for two years to serve a Spanish speaking
mission in Southern California. Dan returned and graduated with a BA
in Political Science and a minor in Spanish. He worked his way
through school as a Spanish instructor at the Language Training
Center, in Provo, Utah.
Dan has been active in his community and politics for many years. As
a 12 year old, he testified at a hearing in Olympia, voicing his
opposition to a waste incinerator that was to be built next to his
grade school, Lakeview Elementary. When Dan turned 14, he served as
a Senate
Page in Olympia, for former State Senator
Kent Pullen. With his
strong background in service and a love to be involved in his
community, Dan knew at an early age that some day he would like to
run for office.
In 1998, Dan made the decision to run for the Washington State House
of Representatives. In a tough fight, he lost by just over 300
votes. Undeterred, he ran again in 2000, this time beating the
incumbent with over 1,700 votes to spare. Dan is currently serving
his 5th two year term.
Dan married
Melanie Kosoff, of Auburn, in the spring of 1999. They make
their home in Bonney Lake with their four children. Dan and
Melanie are the proud owners of
Roach Gymnastics, Inc. located in
Sumner, WA.
Additional Family Information:
Melanie is an Olympic Style Weightlifter
and placed 5th at the 2008 Beijing Olypmics.
Their son, Drew, is autistic. Dan and Melanie are involved in
different autism awareness groups. Dan is working to address autism
and other developmental disabilities in Olympia.
